As you watch another perfect sunset weave a tapestry of lavender, gold and fuchsia, you marvel at the many sights and sounds that await you. Exotic, neon-striped fish, native handicrafts from the local bazaar and ancient monuments constructed by societies that have long since disappeared. You never knew there were so many sides to the Caribbean.

The last 2 years have been some of the worst hurricane seasons in U.S. history, which makes it exceedingly challenging for the cruise industry to provide a inconvenience-free vacation experience. Remember that the cruiselines first priority is the safety of its passengers and employees. If its going to be a choice between what you want to have happen on your vacation and your safety, your safety is going to win.

For the first time last week, I had a client caught in the itnerary changes caused by hurricanes. He was scheduled for a cruise departure out of Miami on Monday, Oct 24 - the day Hurricane Wilma was scheduled to make landfall in south Florida. Royal Caribbean kept information posted on their website, which was updated every few hours. For my client, they reimbursed the full value of the cruise and cost of airfare to fly him from his location to Miami. The cruise before his was extended 2 days, since it was impossible to bring the ship in for debarkation.

Remember, pay attention to any weather or local events that may affect your ships ability to get you on or off board. Be flexible and plan accordingly.

Freedom of the Seas — Royal Caribbean’s most innovative ship yet — is set to launch in June 2006. Royal Caribbean isn’t revealing all of the spectacular features of their new ship, but you can some new surprises in addition to twists on favorites like the rock-climbing wall and Royal Promenade.

The first new-to-the-industry feature is a wave machine you can actually surf called the Flowrider, located on the upper deck. Freedom of the Seas will also have 3 pool “regions” while Royal Caribbean’s largest ships to date have had only 2. The largest and certainly most likely to be a hit with the kids is the H2O zone, an onboard water park. Water spraying multi-colored sculptures, loops and tunnels will keep the family having fun all day. At night, a spectacular lighting system will make it beautiful and entertaining.

Freedom of the Seas will also have a sports pool for, water polo, water basketball and water volleyball, plus lap swimming. The solarium pool, always a favorite, will make water fun possible in any kind of weather.

Royal Caribbean is building a wider variety of family friendly cabins, with alcoves with bunk beds for the kids, and some cabin layouts featuring a separate kids bathroom.

Royal Caribbean is not done revealing all the features of this new ship, so we will keep you posted as new information becomes available.
